Today sixteen million people in North America are doing Network Marketing, all trying to run and build a business and only 1% of them actually understand the business or how the business really works.

There are more clueless people in Network Marketing than in any other line of work and that’s a fact.

U.C.L.A. did a comprehensive, small business study about what motivates people to get into their own businesses.

Here is the result of just a part of that study. The results were quite profound, especially the number one reason or the motive.

  1. Identity, Recognition, Pride of Ownership
  2. Freedom
  3. Financial Freedom

Whatever your motivation may be, it is good. The simplicity of this message and our simple approach to network marketing as well as our infectious enthusiasm for this industry have won us the respect from hundreds of thousands of devoted distributors from several companies from all over the world and they are our friends.

I am so excited for you.

You were born to succeed, you were born to have joy, happiness and success. Just as the trees of the forest need the sun and the rain any human endeavor needs knowledge, encouragement and praise. This is why the great leaders teach, edify and compliment their people so much.

As you go forth upon your journey never look at where you have been through the rear view mirror, always focus forward through the windshield. It is time for you to unlock your potential. It is time for you to do whatever it takes; it is time for you to go a round and go under, go over and to go though. It is not time and never will be time for you to give up. Are you ready?

Today we live in an age of Information or what is commonly referred to as the “Information Age.” First and foremost people want knowledge and information, especially when it comes to their health, wellness, their business and their financial futures. Here are a few ideas and concepts that will certainly help you in your business.

  1. Be Honest with Yourself

Be honest with yourself about whom you were, who you are right now and who you want to be. This was the hardest thing for me to do, but I knew that if I was to be successful I had to do this. I had to evolve by “Getting rid of the junk in my trunk.” You have to do the same!

Evolve and regenerate yourself just like I did by accepting responsibility for your self and the choices and decision you have made in the past. “Change the oil and rebuild your engine.”

Get rid of the blame, judgment and criticism by admitting to yourself just what it is that has been holding you back, especially admitting your weaknesses and your faults.

Get a pen and paper and right your answers down. Be honest, after all you are the only one that will see this. If you are a proud person, admit it, if you are lazy, admit it, if you are judgmental, admit it, if you are superficial, admit it, if you are a know it all, admit it, If you have a hard time with authority, admit it, if you start things and don’t finish what you start, admit it, If you are disorganized and messy, admit it, if you don’t have a dream, admit it, if you criticize, blame and judge others for your own failure, admit it. Admit everything that you perceive as being wrong with you and guess what will happen?

You will soon grow, progress and you will certainly attract the best of the best people and you will excel.

  2. Be Grateful

Tony emigrated with his family from England to Australia in 1958. My life was a mess right from the beginning and lasted for many years. I was a looser and many people knew it.

During my days in junior high and high school I was labeled an “emmy and a pomee”. I was an emmigrant (Emmy) from England, a POME (Prisoner of Mother England). All immigrants from England, at that time, were poor and had to live in Government hostels. I was labeled by all the kids in school to the point that I lived in the labels and became them.

In 1969 I generated the courage to leave Australia after being there eleven years; I was only 19 years of age when I left. I was told by a very spiritual and very kind man named Brother Georgio. Brother Georgio drove me to work in Adelaide every day and brought me home. He said to me,

“Tony be appreciative and acknowledge the only law known to man that will certainly ensure joy, happiness and success in your life. Always, no matter what, respect this law for the law and your adherence to it, will absolutely attract wonderful people, as well as inevitable success into your life!”

I never forgot the day he told me that. The law was and is “The Law of Gratitude.” When you are grateful and appreciative for everything, your spouse, your children, your grandchildren, your opportunities, your challenges, the good things and the bad (If there is any such thing as a bad thing, which I doubt), for your creator, for every new day, you will attract everything good that your heart desires into your life and that’s a fact!

There is no law of attraction, never has been, never will be but there is the principal of attraction! The only law is indeed the law of gratitude. As you take the time every day to express gratitude in writing, you will inevitably attract wonderful people and opportunities to you.

  3. Be Patient

I have never been a patient person, that is why being patient was hard for me. Impatience caused me so much grief as I quit and quit and never stopped quitting.

One day, about ten years ago, a real estate lady who I casually met in a grocery store line was telling me about the bad month she was having. I casually said to her, “Maybe you need to quit and get into another business.”

She said something very profound, “I can’t do that! I would be a quitter and if I am a quitter, I am a failure.”

Wow, did that hit home with a bang! I soon realized that you never fail at anything until you quit!

Patience was not one of my best virtues, yet I soon learned that patience is one of the most important virtues and principals especially when it comes to making money, saving money, making friends and achieving success. Patience is staying away from credit and waiting to pay cash. Patience is avoiding unnecessary purchases.

Patience is avoiding the temptation of commercial advertising that tempts you into buying something you don’t need. Patience is listening to people and nurturing relationships.

Patience is often the difference between creating wealth, wonderful relationships and being in debt and having no friends at all. No one can achieve the success they are looking for without being patient. Relationships take patience! Building a business takes patience! Success takes patience! Personal growth takes patience.

Nobody can build a successful business by themselves overnight! It takes patience and hard work. It takes everything you are reading and are going to read here today.

I have said this all along and I have learned much from this little profound exercise; “If you are confronted with any situation that appears to be negative or confrontational, take one minute to Listen, Ponder, Evaluate and then Respond for the benefits are very positive indeed, never Listen and React for the consequences are too grave.”

  4. Rely and Trust Others

    All my life this has been hard for me. I have always protected myself and bottled everything inside until my chest would hurt. Why? Because I never trusted people! I felt I had been hurt so many times by people that I said to myself; “I will never allow myself to be hurt again.” The fact of the matter was that I had hurt myself. I made the choices and the decisions that hurt me. I allowed the words and actions of others to hurt me. I just never accepted responsibility for my own actions until one day a dear friend of mine who is now dead told me;

“Nothing can ever hurt me unless I allow it to happen.” Wow, did that one hit home too!

He also told me that I would never escape my past or enjoy my future success until I was able to trust and rely upon others, for without the inspiration and the help of others I would always be treading water and getting no where.

Trust the advice and counsel of your true friends as, most of the time, it comes to you from a good, caring heart. Trust and rely upon qualified professionals that are focused on serving you and not themselves. Too many financial professionals such as, attorneys, C.P.A’s, and financial planners are fee and commission driven.

They don’t really don’t care about you as a person but look at you as just another number in their data base of clients. Rely on friends and respect their views and opinions. Learn that feedback is not criticism. Feedback is healthy! Be teachable, coachable and focus on personal development and personal education from people that have lived in the trenches … this really takes patience and commitment on your part because most of us have all the answers don’t we? When in real life we don’t! Take 30 minutes a day to read and study your business. This knowledge will empower you and you will soon see fear and uncertainty disappear as confidence overtakes you.

Be wary of the lamb in wolf’s clothing, they are every where, thousands of them. They are teachers, authors, mentors, coaches and trainers that have never had any real success on their own in business, especially network marketing. They simply TRIED the business but never DID it. They quit, therefore they failed deciding to teach instead.

Every industry is filled with these superficial people that cause havoc and confusion for those that are genuinely trying to change their lives from mediocrity to excellence.

What is it that has made America the most powerful and the most free of any nation on the face of the earth? Americans believe in others as well as themselves, Americans serve others no matter where they may be. If there is a tragedy any where in the world, we are the first ones there to help. We have battled in almost every war loosing hundreds of thousands of lives, we have conquered, yet we have never pillaged or taken the lands of any country. We care, we love our creator and we love our country.

As a nation we will always excel because we will always support and defend freedom and democracy and we will always pursue those that inflict pain and tyranny on others. We will always serve others! This service will always ensure our success as a nation and you as an individual.

Almost every American loves God and those that don’t love something greater and higher than themselves as we all are willing to sacrifice everything we have and own, even our lives for the opportunities and freedom we enjoy here in America.

My belief in this country and my values are the source of my strength, courage and success and always will be. I trust the people of America.

I came here to America from Australia in 1969 with nothing but an old, small suitcase that was previously owned by my grandfather, $50 in my pocket and a fractured right foot. I came here chasing a dream of freedom and success. This magnificent country gave it to me.

The people in this country embraced me, believed in me and I am proud to say I am now a very successful American citizen and darn proud of it. I love this country and everyone in it. I can honestly say I have never met a bad person in this country, just good people that sometimes make bad choices.

  5. Organize Yourself

When I came to America back in 1969 I had a thick Australian accent and everyone offered me a sales jobs. I failed at most because I had no patience, I wanted money fast.

I was victim of paralysis by analysis and I always quit never realizing how close I was to succeeding. I had dreams of massive success but I wanted that success now!

I can honestly say today without a shadow of a doubt, that it was my impatience and lack of organization that kept me from achieving and succeeding.

I had tons of appointments every day and I made tons of telephone calls but I had no way of organizing the people I was talking to and I never knew when to call them back. I had no computer back them so every contact was on sticky notes, pieces of paper, on the tops of newspapers, napkins from restaurants, the inside of books and on the backs of my hands, etc. What a mess! I had telephone numbers and addresses everywhere.

I find it interesting, even to this day in 2007 even the best trainers in the best companies, whether it be traditional companies or the up and coming, rapidly growing network marketing industry, spend very little time emphasizing how critical being organized for success is. In fact most network marketing companies never touch the subject or ever show an organizational system that works. I do and I take a ton of time explaining how important it is to have one and how to use it. Organizing your self and being organized is the common denominator of success and the Share It Forward(SM) Network has the best and most effective organizational system available anywhere.

The computers of today are not going to work. They won’t keep you organized; in fact, the computers and the internet of today will be your downfall! It is called CCD or CCAD which stands for Chronic Computer Dysphoria and Chronic Computer Addiction and Distraction.

Nothing can destroy your dreams and your goals as quickly as being disorganized and distracted. As long as you are disorganized you will never be happy. As long as you are distracted by the internet you will never get anything done. When you are distracted, disorganization proliferates.

Disorganization literally steals all the energy you have, the energy you need to focus on the positive aspects of life and your business. There was a time just recently when my garage was dirty, filthy and disorganized, it was an absolute mess. I had junk and boxes piled five feet high in a three car garage and I could not move anywhere.

I was not able to do anything positive because that dirty garage was always there in the back of my mind, distracting me and robbing all my positive energy that could have been used for good thoughts and actions. It is amazing what happened when I finally made the decision to clean up that garage. A huge weight was lifted off my shoulders as that garage became clean and organized.

Being organized in all things made me and can make you more productive in all areas of your life, especially in your work and business. Being organized in your life releases you from bondage and frees up your mind to think and do bigger and better things that are more productive.

Organization means becoming more efficient and getting more done in less time. It means peace of mind. It means unobstructed focus. It means no more papers here, there and everywhere!

  6. Commitment and Self Discipline

I look back in my life to the time when I was a professional athlete. I was a professional athlete in one of the most grueling and demanding sports of all, soccer! Ninety minutes of constant running up and down a 100 yard pitch or field as the Americans call it. I remember the training, the diet and the constant work I had to do. I remember swimming five miles a day at 5:00 am in the morning, each and every morning trying to be on the Australian National swimming team. I soon learned to be the best of the best you had to commit to be the best and work for it. The difference between average and the best is that little bit extra. I wanted to be the best because I was a nobody for so long. I was determined to conquer myself and be a some body. To be a some body it takes commitment and it takes the hardest form of discipline known to man, self discipline! There is nothing harder than disciplining your self!

To enjoy the good life filled with joy, happiness, achievement as well as success you need to be committed to your goals of freedom, wonderful relationships and financial independence and let go of the resentments, resistance, skeptism, procrastination and the excuses that have held you back for so long and kept you mediocre. You need the self discipline to be organized, committed and of course conservative in every way without sacrificing the risk you are going to have to commit to. You need the discipline it takes to be honest, fair and productive.

  7. Review and Reflect

It's important to be able to look back at the choices of your past and ponder the results with an open mind. I did and I soon realized whatever the results were, I was in charge and I made the choices just as you did. I was the sum total of my choices and experiences and no one was to blame. This world is perfect in every way, people’s choices make it imperfect.

I have made many mistakes in life over the years and I accept the fact that I am going to make many more mistakes. Everyone does. I have learned so much from my mistakes, more so than from my successes.

I have learned from my past experiences and now I refuse to be held hostage by them. I have chosen to grow, progress and to excel in my life and I am thankful for those wonderful past experiences, the good and the not so good. I have finally realized that my growth was the result of those choices and experiences.

The key for you is to do what I did and that is to learn from those mistakes and then let them go. Make a commitment never to repeat the same mistake twice.

  8. Creativity

Many times what we accomplish will not always meet our expectations. That is normal. If you are the super athlete then in your own eyes you will never be good enough because; “As you conquer one raging river, rougher rapids shall you seek, as you conquer one mountain top, you will be searching for higher peaks.”

Today we live within an economy that not just requires creativity, it demands it. A creative mind is a healthy mind. Do not let conservative principals compromise your creativity. There is room for both. Today we face a new generation of challenges and obstacles that certainly will threaten our potential prosperity, our freedom and our future security as well as the security of our children and grandchildren. Our traditional mindset must change if we wish to forge ahead and realize our dreams of success and financial freedom.

We cannot become complacent and dependant on jobs any more. The security does not exist. Things are going to get worse before they get better. We cannot depend on a Job. Dependency is death to your initiative, dependency is death to your dreams and aspirations, dependency is death to opportunity, and dependency is a highly addictive drug that will destroy you one way or the other. I will never become dependent neither should you. We should always be creative, innovative and ambitious in everything that we do. We should always stand for principle. The future security of our children and grandchildren depend upon our commitment and example to them.

The next few years will be trying for everyone as we see all commodities and utilities going up in price and the availability of traditional opportunities diminish. We must now dig deep inside each of us and pull out the fire that has always been there.

We must rise to the occasion and confront the challenges that lay ahead and be whom we were meant to be. We have the talents and the creativity within us, right now, to overcome any adversity confronting us, so let us release the past as well as the future and embrace the present and seize it, for today is indeed the first day of the rest of your life. Release your talents and go to work.

  9. Curiosity

I have always been curious about rich people. I have often wandered what makes them tick. It didn’t take long for me to see why so many people were so rich. They served their fellow man and gave of their substance. Curiosity helps to create awareness and keeps a mind healthy. I hope I never lose my curiosity. Success, learning and the application of knowledge is fueled by curiosity. Curiosity stimulates creativity and thought. Curiosity stimulates imagination and vision. Always be curious and embrace the curious mind of others and teach them.

  10.  Risk

The fear of risk has destroyed many a man and woman. It almost did me. I chocked at the thought of taking a risk. The cemeteries of the world are filled with people that died with their dreams and aspirations because they were afraid to take a risk. To realize a dream, a goal and to build wealth, one needs to be willing to take a risk, at least once in a while. Those people who don’t take a risk become miserable people because they are always saying to them selves, “Why didn’t I or What if I or What if I would have or What could or Might have been”.

People who are afraid of risk become bound and are held hostage to, an 8-5 job (Just Over Broke), perhaps a guarantee of seniority, health insurance and a couple of weeks vacation pay a year.

Taking a risk does not mean you take uncalculated risks. It means weighing all the options, looking at the big picture, looking at the potential as well as the risk and making calculations to determine if a risk is appropriate worthwhile and justified.

Think about this; 90% of every American works for someone else in an 8-5 job, working for the other 10%. I did for years and I hated it.

Americans go to school only to be programmed and manipulated for years to earn a salaried income or a wage. They work for the other 10%, yes indeed that same 10% that are responsible for 90% of the wealth of America.

Governments don’t want people in their own businesses; they want people working for paychecks where they are guaranteed the maximum amount of taxes.

Every Government wants a certain a number of small business for the “do gooders” (the 90%er’s) to work for, but they certainly don’t want an overload of them and they hate home-based-business. Why is that? Because the tax right offs and deductions are too plentiful!

The stock market has tremendous risks involved, but who are doing the investing? The 10%er’s not the 8-5 workers (the 90%er’s).

Look at how many 8-5er’s that have their money in savings in the bank, there are millions of people that do this completely unaware that they are losing money every year. Yes indeed, it is true! When you take into consideration taxes on the small interest generated from savings accounts as well as inflation you are losing money big time!

God has given you all the talents to make it big and become rich but if you don’t believe it and stick your neck out once in while you will never know of those talents you have and you will simply “rot” in an 8-5 job, having two coffee breaks and a lunch every day, and a paycheck beaten down by taxes.

Go ahead stick your neck out, express gratitude for all you have and take a risk and see what happens! You may be pleasantly surprised!

  11.  Goals

When I came to America I knew exactly where I was going. I was going to the richest country on earth, the land of opportunity and freedom. If you don't know where you are going, you will never get there. Write your goals down in RED all over your house so you will see those goals every minute of the day. Those who have no goals have no road map to take them to where they want to go. A man or woman without a goal is horse without hay. They are destined to die! When your dreams die, you die inside! Say to yourself every day, “I will be grateful for all I have, I will accomplish, I will aspire higher, I will be somebody, I will achieve my goals, I will achieve my dreams and make them reality, I will not TRY to DO, I will DO and I will be successful and I will help others.

  12.  Commit - Work Hard and Work Smart

Achieving goals, being organized, realizing goals, taking risks, being persistent and persuasive, creating wealth, teamwork and staying out of debt rarely comes about without an absolute commitment, courage and a lot of hard work.

Most people might hope that an inheritance or winning the lottery will solve all their financial challenges but they can’t and they won’t. The true path to accomplishment, financial freedom and success, however, is to do the things contained herein. You will never realize your dream of success and financial freedom working hard for a wage or a salary, never!

In sales I have attended many trainings and seminars throughout the world where trainers get up and talk the walk but I have rarely seen any trainers that walk the walk. Most of them can’t go up to a person and recruit them; they have never been in the trenches. They are so inexperienced that they never bother to tell you the one very important principal that certainly will ensure your success.

It is a principal so powerful that a half a day should be spent on it. The “Principal of Companionship” followed by the principal of teamwork. The “Principal of Companionship” is the common denominator of your success, especially in network marketing and that’s a fact! Teamwork, which everyone talks about will never work until one salesperson has found a companion to work with on a regular basis. In network marketing the results are often deadly when the “Principal of Companionship” is overlooked and ignored.

There are very few distributors that can enjoy success working by themselves, that is why I have always teamed people up to work together, to plan, strategize and to achieve. Two on one … the other person doesn’t have a chance. Two excited and enthusiastic distributors can literally overwhelm a friend and attract them as a customer or to their business easily.

Companion sharing and selling is the wave of the future and it works. If you are a “greenie” or a beginner in the network marketing business the chances are, if you work without the benefit of a companion you WILL fail. In fact 80% of these people will fail, whereas 70% will succeed if they have an active, committed companion or a dynamic duo to work and have fun with. Remember, this is working smart!

You will never achieve your dreams or enjoy success working on your own or by yourself.

The network marketing industry has changed; it has evolved into a bonafied profession. Today, it is an intrinsic business of caring and sharing, the days of extrinsic motivation is gone. You can’t show dollar bills and put circles and squares on people’s heads anymore. People are too smart now. I have made it my policy now that if ever I hear a trainer, mentor, coach or an author calling people a prospect I am done or I throw the book away. People are your friends and should respected and addressed as such.

Success can only be achieved by having the courage to succeed and believing you deserve to succeed. Find the courage to embrace and immerse yourself into your very own business, a business that will ensure you a residual income, year after year for life.

Where do you find this business? The network marketing industry! The only business where you can have fun, a wonderful purpose, where you can work hard and work smart for about 24 months and be set financially free for life!

My wife and I are retired many times over if we so choose to be. We don’t choose to be because we want to give back the knowledge and skills we have learned and we will in the very near future as the Share It Forward(SM) networking concept evolves.

You may not possess all of the ideas contained herein right now. But knowing of them can help you make the adjustments and/or the changes so that you nourish and expand upon the ones you definitely have and discover the new ones you're missing.

Today is indeed the first day of the rest of your life.

  13.  Follow Through

When I came to America I fell in love with basketball, for years I could not even keep a basketball bouncing. I was so uncoordinated with that round ball. I was determined to conquer the sport however. After five years I became good at it and competed in many leagues against ex-professional and college stars. At the time the ABA was a super professional league along with the NBA. Out of 10,000 or so contenders I got to the final of the Utah State one on one tournament and played the one on one final against an ex-professional ball player. The game was played at half time of the ABA championship game. I lost by three points. I was very upset that I lost and I scratched my head every day for a week trying to figure out what went wrong.

What was hard for me is that the guy that beat me in the final was the same guy I beat in the preliminary round.

I admitted to myself why I lost! I wasn’t ready to win. I was too cautious as I played not to lose instead of playing to win. As I did this I was apprehensive to shoot the best shot I have in my arsenal, the three pointer. When I was down by nine points I decided to shoot the threes but I noticed that my follow through was inconsistent. The shots would not go down.

Do the business, don’t try it. Take it seriously or don’t do it at all. If you take a casual attitude to your business, you will get casual results and you will become the first casualty. Be ready for your success! Are you ready for your success? Don’t prepare to prepare to prepare to do the business, JUST GET OUT AND DO IT! Keep your word and follow through with people. Without follow through you will lose as I lost the final of the one on one contest.

If you always do what you have always done you will always be what you have always been and you will never be what you could have been and that’s a fact. End of story!

  14.  Give Back

Be generous as you become successful, increase your service to others and give of your substance. That is the one thing my wife Randi and I are very proud of and that is the more we earn, the more we give back. It is truly a blessing to have the opportunity to give back. The most valuable asset you have is your time. Give it away freely and as you generate income give it back!
